KEN’S WORK HAS BEEN MISTAKEN FOR EVIDENCE OF TIME TRAVEL and ALIENS, but HE GOT HIS START on new york's lower east side in the booming 80's.
For the last three decades Ken has ben a fixture of the New York Street Art scene whose now famous One Line, CHISELED 30 YEARS AGO into the granite sidewalks of MANHATTAN, have been TRAVERSED BY MILLIONS OF FEET. THE STONES are as VIBRANT today as the day they were CUT. Ken’s graffiti may outlive us all.
the ken stones chronicles hiratsuka's arrival in New York, crashing headlong INto THE EXUBERANT EAST VILLAGE ART SCENE OF THE 80'S. delving into the worlds of the rivington school, 11th st studio, and squid farm. the film takes flight as the scope of hiratsuka's vision expands into a globe spanning quest. The Ken STONES CHARTS a rock cutter's EVOLUTION FROM graffiti ARTIST TO planetary CITIZEN.
THE HEART OF THE story IS AN existential crisis; after setting out 20 years earlier on a quest to cut a stone in every country on earth, ken in his mid-fifties and HAS CARVED STONES IN 23 COUNTRIES. with over 200 countries left to visit and Carpel Tunnel Syndrome threatening to end his career. KEN mounts a crowd funding campaign in a grand push to complete his quest before time takes its INEVITABLE toll.
